82‐1: <i>Distinguished Paper:</i> Radially Variant Contrast in Virtual Reality Headsets

Monocular image quality on virtual reality (VR) head‐mounted displays (HMDs) is radially variant each eye piece. The blurred at the periphery of display field view primarily by thin lenses stacked top VR backplane, resulting in resolution and contrast degradation. Conventional measurement methods adopted from flat‐panel evaluation do not consider spatially artifacts additional optical components, thus may be adequate to assess VR. We develop novel test patterns a new method measure Michelson HMDs. demonstrates efficient using varied interpupillary distance settings.
